The Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") announced its annual "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams with a special emphasis on aggressive and evolving schemes related to coronavirus tax relief, including Economic Impact Payments. The 2020 list is as follows:
- Phishing
- Fake Charities
- Threatening Impersonation Calls
- Social Media Scams
- EIP/Refund Theft
- Senior Fraud
- ESL Scams
- Fraudulent Tax Return Preparers
- Offer-In-Compromise Mills
- Fake Payment with Repayment Demands
- Payroll & HR Scams
- Ransomware
