Tax News: IL Politician Indicted for Criminal Tax
Comments (0)
The Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") has indicted Illinois state Sen. Terry Link in federal court with filing a false income tax return for the year 2016.
Nearly a year ago, the IL senator denied being the unnamed senator who got in hot water with the feds and turned on Rep. Luis Arroyo. But now, Link has been charged in federal court with filing a false income tax return for the year 2016, in which he claimed his income was $264,450 even though he knew his total income “substantially exceeded that amount.”
Filing false returns violates Internal Revenue Code § 7206 (1) carrying a potential maximum prison sentence of three (3) years and $100,000 in fines. Violation of the Internal Revenue Code may result in criminal indictment in federal court.
