The U.S. Department of Education announced student loan forbearance has been extended through January 31, 2021.
The offering started in March as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act ("CARES Act"). In August, President Donald Trump directed the U.S. Department of Education to continue student loan forbearance until December 31, 2020. As the presidency shifts over to the new Biden administration, it is unclear if the forbearance and/or partial or full student loan forgiveness will take place under the new presidency.
