The U.S. Supreme Court ("SCOTUS") will to determine whether restrictions on compensation for college athletes violate federal antitrust laws. SCOTUS will hear a consolidated case requesting a reversal of a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals' ("9th Circuit") decision. The appeals court had ruled that the NCAA’s eligibility rules unlawfully restrained trade.
The 9th Circuit holding prevented the NCAA from limiting education-related benefits for student athletes in Division I basketball and Football Bowl Subdivision football programs.
