Criminal Defense News - Major US Law Firm Hacked
A major New York law firm was the most recent of the trend of REvil ransomware (also known as Sodinokobi) hacking events. The law firm, which is known for its "A-List" celebrity clients, is reported to have lost 756 Gigabytes of client information including: addresses, contracts, phone numbers, and other related information.
Some of the celebrities information allegedly stolen includes: Madonna, Elton John, and Lady Gaga. The firm also has been know to represent other parties including: LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Jessica Simpson, Nicki Minaj, Priyanka Chopra, Mariah Carey, and Mary J. Blige.
This attack is the most recent in a wave of ransomware attacks against the biggest companies and law firms with hackers demanding undisclosed sums of money for the return of the data. If not complied with, the hackers vow to publish information on the dark web.
While extremely unfortunate event to those involved, the attacks serve as a lesson to ensure proper data encryption and protection. Especially with so many individuals and law firm partners working remotely on unsecured networks or devices.
