COVID-19 Relief Law - IRS to Resume Operations in June

The Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") has begun the process of reopening their major field operations as of June, 2020.
On June 1st, IRS field offices in Kentucky, Texas, and Utah were reopened and restaffed. Key operations at these locations include two of the major IRS Service Centers for processing returns, the unit that processes ITIN applications, and one of the three CAF units.
The IRS is reopening the following field offices in June:
- Georgia and Tennessee: June 15, 2020
- Missouri and Michigan: June 15, 2020
- Indiana and Ohio: June 29, 2020
- California, Oregon, and Puerto Rico: June 29, 2020
Presently, no statistics are published on the extent of the IRS work backlog or timelines for resumption of normal capacity.
