COVID-19 Relief Law - IRS to Resume Field Office Operations

The Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") is expected to require thousands of employees in Kentucky, Texas, and Utah to return to their work sites beginning June 1.  IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig in an email to employees late Tuesday noted an expanding backlog of work that the agency needs to sort through. “We will continue to balance these urgent tax administration needs while doing everything possible to protect you and your colleagues,” he said.

While the IRS temporary "grace period", during which collections activities are stayed, extends until July 15, 2020, the return of the IRS personnel directly signals that a return to "normal" for IRS collections activities.

Taxpayers who fall into a sense of complacency run the risk of being ill prepared for the full force of the IRS upon the resumption of normal collection activities after this grace period expires.

To best prepare yourself for during this grace period please contact the tax attorneys at Fazzio Law, we are in your corner!
